Agartala, March 28 (TIWN):For the first time, a woman was sentenced to jail by High Court of Tripura. The woman is Sobha Saha Ray, wife of Subrata Saha resident of Subhasnagar under East Agartala police station. The husband of the convicted woman was government supplier contactor, the firm was registered by her name.
On 2001, a cheque of Rs 1.30 lakh was givento Nandesh Das, owner of M/s Auto Mechno signed by Sobha Saha, however the cheque bounced back. A case was field in the court of CJM court here, after long hearing the court found Sobha found guilty. She was sentenced to one year jail and fined Rs 2.50 lakh. The judgment was given on March 12, 2004.
The convict appealed at High Court on 2005 and after hearing, Chief Justice Deepak Gupta upheld the judgment of CJM court on February 28, 20014. However, after one year police did not arrest the convict. Then senior advocate Shaktimoy Chakraborty, counsel for Nandesh Das brought the issue to the notice of DSP central Rajendra Datta, and warned of going to court against police if the convict was not arrested. After getting threatening, arrested Sobha Saha Ray and sent her to jail on Friday.
