GMP moves to Supreme Court challenging C | AGARTALA, Dec 15 (TIWN): CPI-M’s indigenous wing Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP) has moved to Supreme Court of India challenging Citizenship Amendment Act, calling it not only ‘undemocratic’ but harmful against whole Northeast. Addressing media, at Melarmath CPI-M State Headquarter, former MP cum Ganamukti Parishad President Jitendra Choudhury said that the Citizenship Amendment Act was a violation of the Instrument of Accession signed by the princely state to merge with the Union of India in 1949. Thus GMP has moved the Supreme Court against the “unconstitutional†Citizenship Act that for the first time allows citizenship on the basis of religion to six communities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
