Over 79% turnout in Tripura Assembly by- | Agartala, Sep 23 (TIWN) Over 79 per cent of the 57,906-strong electorate have cast their votes in the Badharghat Assembly by-poll in Tripura on Monday, officials said. The counting of votes will take place on Friday.“At 5 p.m., over 79 per cent of the total electorate have cast their votes. The final polling percentage is likely to increase as few hundred voters are still in the queue after the end of the scheduled time of balloting which is 5 p.m. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the constituency,†Tapan Kumar Das, Additional District Magistrate of West Tripura district, told media. “Election officials have immediately dealt with some complaints received from the candidates and the contesting parties,†he added. Panic, Violence in Tripura By-Election : | AGARTALA, Aug 22 (TIWN): Law and order of poll bound Badharghat constituency is now under Election Commission as not even 24 hours left for much awaited by-election in the constituency but tension and panic already triggered in the constituency after BJP activists allegedly attacked CPI-M activists and a shop-keeper's home at that area. Although State Election Commission called all voters to fearlessly cast their votes on Monday since morning 7 am, but in the morning a family belong to CPI-M was threatened by BJP hooligans led by 1) Prasenjit Roy, 2) Santu Debnath which resulted in road-blockade, chaos and more tension. A huge number of CPI-M activists, leaders are now safeguarding Badharghat and met the family in Siddhi Aram and the started the agitation. The incident occurred after CPI-M members were posting banners in a shop. The hooligans also attempted to burn the shop asking why is he allowing CPI-M to post their banners. The miscreants did not stop there but also attacked the family of that shop-keeper. The family not only attacked by the hooligans but a child in the house was attempted to be beaten.
