AGARTALA, Oct 25 (TIWN): The two urea suppliers of the state – Brahmaputra Valley Corporation Limited and Indian Fertilizer Corporation Limited is supplying urea. As a result for last two months, the is state farmer are facing acute shortage of urea. The winter crops mostly depends on urea fertilizer, the farmer are going to pillar to posts as they have started cultivating crops.
Having no other option farmer have to purchase from the open market at Rs 35 – 40 per kilo. Whereas the government rate is Rs 5 per kilo. But the government is ignorant on the issue presently face by farmers. It is a known fact that the production costs increases if cost for production increase.
In the country out of total fertilizer used 68 percent is urea, in the state also same proportion of urea are used in agriculture by farmers. The supply in other states is normal compared to here. The state is under acute of shortage of urea whereas neighbouring states of Meghalaya and Assam according to report are not having any crisis.
The last time urea came in the state was on August 2015.Due to mega block conversion work the urea used to come till Guwahati. From there it was transported by trucks in the state. The consignment given is very less to the total urea required.
The two urea supplier companies are not supplying in the state, but the same companies are supplying it regularly to other neighboring states. They have sent fifteen rack of urea in last two months but here they have not sent even a single rack.
