CPI-M Septuagenarian leaders Holiday bre | VISAKHAPATNAM / AGARTALA, April 14 (TIWN): The Communist Party of India-Marxist began its conclave on Tuesday with a call by its outgoing General Secretary Prakash Karat to build and strengthen the party by overcoming the reverses suffered by it in recent years. Addressing the 21st Congress of the CPI-M, he also called for widening and strengthening the left unity to counter the right-wing offensive."At the present juncture it is absolutely vital to build and expand independent strength of CPI-M and the left. We have to overcome the reverses suffered by CPI-M and the left in recent period particularly in West Bengal," he said. "It is by forging strong left unity that we can rally all other democratic forces and go forward towards building left and democratic alternative," he said. However foxy Karat avoided mentioning failures of CPI-M in recent elections, rejections by voters in Kerala and West Bengal under his lame duck leadership. The party will not take any chance to experiment at this critical juncture when the very existence of the left party in the national political arena is under question, believes political analysts. The 21st Party Congress of the CPI(M) at Visakhapatnam is expected to concentrate more towards steps for regaining the party’s lost ground throughout the country. Recent attack on BDOs in different parts of the state and the subsequent mass leave opted by the BDOs show the mismanagement of the top bosses of the RD department, lame duck RD Minister Naresh Jamatia. The pressure created by the hierarchy to accomplish the targetted mandays compelled the BDOs to engage the labourers in different jobs in their areas. Docs reveal 6 hospitals involved in NHM | AGARTALA, April 14 (TIWN): With no major development with the police investigation to the National Health Mission (NHM) multi crore scam case at Unakoti District (North), a recent document collected after RTI revealed that at least six hospitals are involved to the NHM multi-crore scam. This has now proved that starting from the Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) till the doctors, Medical Superintendents, fund re-imbursement officers, along with a section of ruling leaders are linked to the scam that has of course brought another major embarrassment for the Left front govt. here. The helpless depositors are thronging to the chit fund offices to get back their money but are only returning with dismay. Most of the offices of the chit fund company are either locked or nobody is present in the offices who could satisfy the customers and their queries. It may be mentioned here that the owner of the estimated Rs.20, 0000 crores chit Fund Company is behind bars on charges of illegal money collection from people, the court has permitted him to come outside for solemnizing the last rites after his father’s death. But the court has not made any relaxation about the frozen bank accounts of the chit fund company so far. With the future of the chit fund company seen sinking, the house owners of the various offices of the chit fund company throughout Tripura are pressing hard for their monthly rent but the company is not able to pay the rent ever since the bank accounts were ceased. The situation further turned sour with the CBI officials’ raid in the main office of the Chit fund company here in Agartala last month and the subsequent arrest of the owner in Kolkata. Nagappan asked: "We want to know if you are investigating larger conspiracy angle, you may eventually come up with the case not only against the promoters of the chit fund companies but even the regulator, some police personnel and politicians""It is a case that has dimensions not only in terms of amount of money involved but the people involved in it.
