AGARTALA, April 12 (TIWN): There was a flurry of activity on the last day of filing of nominations for the Assembly elections with as many as 32 nominations being received f0r tribal council election on Saturday.
In all, a total of 205 nominations have been received for the 28 seats of tribal council . However, these included several dummies and multiple applications filed by a few candidates.
With most of the candidates of major political parties already having filed their nominations, Independents and candidates of smaller parties filed their papers.
After last day of filing nomination papers 19 candidates from TMC, 28 candidates from BJP, 28 candidates from CPI(M), 31 candidates from INC, 30 candidates from INPT, 29 candidates from IPFT, others 18 candidates and independent 22 candidates.
The election to the 28-member Tripura ADC will be held on May 3. The votes will be counted on May 6. The whole election process will be completed by May 10.4. The last date for submission of nomination papers is April 11. Nomination can be withdrawn till April 16.
According to EC guidelines, the model code of conduct has been enforced across Tripura after the announcement of the poll date, he said. The EC has allowed the state election authority to use 1,450 EVMs for the ADC polls for the first time. The process will be conducted in 1,071 polling booths across eight districts of the state. Since 1982, the Tripura ADC polls have used ballot papers.
About 7.58 lakh electorate, including 3.75 women will exercise their franchise. About 31% of the state's total population will be casting their votes for the ADC polls.
