Railways introduces 33 per cent sub-quot | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Sep 30 (TIWN): The Indian Railways on Thursday introduced a sub-quota of 33 per cent for women in allotment of each of the reserved catering units and also launched a new 'Train at a Glance' and time table effective from October 1.Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said: "The introduction of new policy providing sub-quota of 33 per cent to women in catering units is a step towards women empowerment and their increased participation in the railways." He also said that the Railways will continue to introduce such new reformative steps. Apart from these, the Railways also liberalised station-to-station special freight rates policy, launched policy giving preference to local domicile holders for commercial licenses at stations, and introduced new system of allocating vacant berths after final charting to wayside stations.According to the ministry, 33 per cent sub-quota reservation for women shall ensure allotment of minimum 8 per cent stalls to women at A1, A, B and C category rail stations and minimum 17 per cent at D, E and F category stations. | 30-Sep-2016 |
Tripura Govt yet to utilize state's Tea | GUWAHATI / AGARTALA, Sep 30 (TIWN): The Assam government has announced 20 per cent bonus to tea garden workers as a gift for the forthcoming Durga Puja festival. But the tradition of tea gardening in Tripura is almost on the verge of extinction due to Tripura Govt.’s negligence to Tea plantation, promoting other products as rubber. On the other hand Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said this on Thursday while adding that he has directed Industries and Commerce Department to dispense the payment of 20 per cent bonus to tea workers as their puja gift.The decision assumes significance as there has been growing dissatisfaction among the tea garden workers in different tea gardens across the state and most of them have been demanding release of 20 percent bonus for the Durga puja festival.However, the state government's decision to release 20 percent bonus will be applicable only to the 15 tea gardens under the state run Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL). Most of the other private owned gardens are yet to announce the bonus this year.It may be mentioned here that Assam has over 800 small and large plantations and only 15 of them with over 16,000 workers spreading across the districts of Nagaon, Biswanath, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Karimganj are under the ATCL. | 29-Sep-2016 |

Labourers are never provided with oxygen masks and violating all rules of labour-safety they are sent to work in empty hands.
