Tension at Tripura University as teacher | AGARTALA, April 6 (TIWN): Tension prevails at Tripura University as numbers of faculty members, research scholars have begun hunger strike from today demanding withdrawal of UGC Reservation Circular. Addressing media, the Hunger strikers said, "UGC on 5th March had issued a fresh circulation according to which, the University will not be considered anymore as a single unit. According to UGC, from now the reservation will be department-wise. But if the departments are considered as a single unit instead of the University itself as a unit, then in coming 60 - 70 years also there will be no reservation for the SC, ST, OBCs in many departments". Illegal ganja business on spike : Police | UDAIPUR, April 5 (TIWN): In a successful drive, Tripura Police have arrested one ganja businessman at Udaipur today. The arrested person has been identified as Rajesh Sing, resident of Kolkata. He was carrying the ganjas (cannabis) from Kashba (Sepahijala Dist) towards Agartala. Police getting informed via secret sources had put ambush on the Amarpur Highway's Kajubadam Bagan area. In that trap, the truck met a minor accident and stopped. As soon as the truck was immovable, police nabbed the driver on spot. The vehicle bearing number AF19C8339 was seized. ‘Tripura Govt ready to handover Jo | AGARTALA, April 4 (TIWN): Advocate General cum senior Advocate at High Court Arun Kanti Bhowmik today told the High Court that the state govt is ready to handover much delayed Santanu murder case to CBI. Adv Samrat Kar Bhowmik asked Arun Bhowmik to clarify the matter as the previous govt denied to handover the case to CBI. However, Tripura BJP Govt has already announced that both Santanu murder case and Sudip Datta Bhaumik murder case will be handed over to CBI. But the previous state govt under CPI-M rejected the plea of CBI investigation in Santanu murder case, who was killed on Sept 20, 2017. The murder of the young journalist Santanu Bhaumik took place before 7 months in a brutal attack during political clash.
