Tripura's shipments via Bangladesh river | AGARTALA /DHAKA / NEW DELHI, May 30 (TIWN): The union cabinet on Saturday approved the agreement on coastal shipping between India and Bangladesh for coastal movement of goods between the two countries. Tripura already immensely benefiting good relations between India and Bangladesh as Bangladesh allowed heavy equipment shipments for OTPC Palatana Power Project via Bangladesh Ashuganj Port. Apart from that Bangladesh helping Tripura by allowing rice shipments from Visakhapatnam, Chennai ports to Tripura via Bangladesh Ashuganj Port. "Exim trade between India and Bangladesh would be benefited by way of reduction in freight charges. It will also improve the utilisation of port capacities of Indian ports and open up new opportunity for Indian coastal vessels. It will also help in decongestion of roads especially at the land custom stations/integrated check posts at the Indo-Bangladesh boarder," an official statement issued here said.The Indian ports serving as trans-shipment ports for Bangladesh cargo will derive benefits by way of enhanced throughput as a result of Indo-Bangladesh coastal trade, it said, adding that both the nations shall render the same treatment to the other country's vessels as it would have done to its national vessels used in international sea transportation.India's trade with Bangladesh has grown rapidly during the past few years. Union Cabinet approves MoU with Banglade | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, May 30 (TIWN): The cabinet on Saturday approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh on the prevention of human trafficking and speedy prosecution."The union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for signing of a MoU on prevention of human trafficking especially trafficking in women and children: rescue, recovery, repatriation and reintegration of victims of human trafficking," an official statement issued here said.The cabinet also approved an agreement on coastal shipping between India and Bangladesh.This has been done to strengthen cooperation to prevent all forms of human trafficking, especially that of women and children, and ensure the speedy investigation and prosecution of traffickers and organised crime syndicates in either country.It will also help in enumeration of preventive measures that would be taken to eliminate human trafficking in women and children and in protecting the rights of victims of trafficking and their expeditious repatriation. Tripura police welcomes repeal of AFSPA | AGARTALA, May 30 (TIWN): Welcoming the repeal of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) Tripura Police Inspector General of Police (IGP, Control Room) Nepal Das said, “Because the situation has changed now and new things awaits to come up here in Tripura the government has taken a decision to repeal the AFSPA.†Talking to TIWN on Saturday Das said, “Tripura Police welcomes the decision of the govt. and we thank the security forces for their major contribution in bringing the insurgency activities to wane.†Das said that it is nothing but the joint effort of the state security forces, police and the state govt. which succeed to take the 1997-2001 period of time into wane now. “State govt. and the security forces along with the police has brought the insurgency activities and violence by the NLFT and ATTF militants down by implementing integrated formulas and operation plants in the disturbed areas of the state.†The Act was implemented in 40 police station areas of the state in February, 1997. 'Tripura govt. doctors cannot run privat | AGARTALA, May 29 (TIWN): On yet another barrier to the private chamber service of the Tripura Government doctors Tripura High Court (HC) on Friday putting a ban on the govt. doctors running private chambers for the maximum period of time ordered that no govt. doctors are allowed to run their private chambers more than 3 hours during the working days, whereas during the holidays they can run private chambers maximum upto 6 hours. However, the next hearing of the case would be again on the month of July this year.The court under the division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhashish Talapatra on Friday has also put a ban on any kind of engagement to the private hospitals or nursing homes by the Govt. doctors here. According to the court order, the govt. Doctors can charge maximum of Rs. 200 from the patients in their private chambers and along with the doctors would need to provide receipt of it to the patients. Besides, if same patient visits the doctor for the second time than the doctor would have to charge Rs. 100 only, court ordered on Friday. Besides putting a ban on certain issues related to the govt. doctors and their private treatment the court also ordered that the govt. doctors would have to set up their private chambers in their own residential houses or if doctors reside in the rented house than the chambers would have to opened in the rented house. A large number of senior Doctors, including Assistant Professors and Associate Professors of AGMC, have allegedly been doing private practice during duty hours, said a senior health official. | 29-May-2015 |

Agartala-Kolkata Bus Service :Kolkata bu | AGARTALA, May 28 (TIWN): Bus service from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka to commence very soon after formal inauguration at Dhaka by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6. As part of the trial run Kolkata bus would arrive here in Agartala via Dhaka on June 2, said Minister Manik Dey on Thursday. Later another meeting is likely to be held between the Govt. of India and Bangladesh Government, he said.Talking to the reporters here at the secretariat on Thursday State Transport Minister Manik Dey informed that West Bengal Government has recently informed the state govt. issuing a letter to the Transport Secretary that they would ply a bus from Kolkata to Agartala via Dhaka as part of the trial run before the bus service commence.Dey said, “A bus bearing number WB-23D-1203 would arrive here in Agartala Akhaura Check post on June 2 from Kolkata via Dhaka as part of the trial run".The bus would start from Kolkata on June 1 with the transport officials of West Bengal along with others. It would enter Agartala Akhaura check post at 11:00 AM. Dey said that the TRTC Managing Director (MD) was asked to make all necessary arrangements to keep the Kolkata bus at its station. “Govt. of Tripura is also planning to seek permission from Govt. of India to ply a bus from Agartala to Kolkata via Dhaka as part of trial run,†Dey adding said that no information has come from the Govt. of India in regard of the bus service as of now. | 28-May-2015 |
Railway Board Executive Director visits | AGARTALA, May 28 (TIWN): Ministry of Railway Board Executive Director Vivek Kumar alongwith NFR officials visited Agartala Railway Station to take stock of ongoing BG (broad gauge) expansion works of Agartala- Silchar line. Earlier Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced a budget allocation of Rs.2,362.74 crore for the Northeast and promised to bring the region into the mainstream."I have allocated Rs.2,362.74 crore for the Development of North Eastern Region(DoNER). Special priority is being given to the region's development. The development process includes two visits of prime minister (Narendra Modi) and launch of important infrastructure projects. Northeastern part of the country will be brought in the mainstream," Jaitley said while presenting the union budget 2015-16 in the Lok Sabha.Ministry of Railway Board Executive Director Vivek Kumar along with his 12 members’ railway team visiting the North Eastern region to monitor the pace of Railways BG conversion infrastructure projects.Apart from 2362 crores, an extra sum of Rs.1,000 crore was also allocated for rail connectivity and Rs.2,000 crore for road connectivity in Northeastern region. | 28-May-2015 |
