‘12,000 non-taxpayer businessmen i | AGARTALA, Oct 10 (TIWN): Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb while addressing in the inauguration programme of “Angikaarâ€, a statewide programme, at Agartala Town Hall today said that there are only 8,000 tax-paying businessmen in Agartala whereas 12,000 businessmen do not give taxes. CM came to know about it from a section of businessmen who came to meet him at CM’s quarter recently to talk about the increased taxes, which was step back by the Govt after talking to them. Like every year, this year also crowd witnesses in markets since morning specially in meat and fish markets, whereas demands for Hilsa fish had gone high at Rs. 1200 to Rs. 1600 in the Battala market. Demands for chickens, mutton are high at the same time as the food culture contributes in the Bengali dishes on Vijaya Dasami includes various fish items, chicken, mutton, dahi, sweet, chatni etc. On the day of Dashami, when the Bengali families celebrate the day with rich food and sweets which includes fish, meat and many other items, the skyrocketing price of commodities hits the pocket of the middle class families and poor. More or less most of the families try to enjoy the day as it comes once in a year. However, the cost of mutton also touched the sky with Rs. 1000 per Kilogram. Over the past few months, retail prices of onion have shot up almost from Rs. 40 per kg to 80-85 per kg in the State, which is a part of nationwide onion price hikes. A ‘Navami’ without Bloodshe | AGARTALA, Oct 7 (TIWN): For the first time in Tripura, Devi puja was observed without any blood-shed across Tripura temples. At Matabari since Maha-Astami the traditional ‘Bali’ system was withdrawn as Tripura High Court’s order was implemented. West District DM Sadeep Mahatme however imposed the order of High Court immediately after the judgement was passed and thus no buffalo sacrifice was observed in Tripura’s ancient Durga temple too. The age old tradition of Buffalo sacrifice at Durga Bari temple every year was marking the celebration of Maha Navami with blood spots but this year no inhuman activity was imposed across the temples. There would be no sacrifice of animals during Durga Puja in the famous Durga Bari temple here for the first time in 525 years as the Tripura HC has banned the tradition of animal sacrifice. Navratri, the nine nights Hindu festival is observed every year in October. The ninth day of Navratri is celebrated as Navami and holds a special significance. It was on Navami that Goddess Durga annihilated the buffalo demon Mahishasura and veered off his head. It symbolises the victory of good over evil. During these nine days, devotees observe fast to pay respect to the Goddess. Navratri will culminate on the tenth day with Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra on October 19. First time 'No Bloodshed' in Tripura Sun | UDAIPUR, Oct 6 (TIWN): Marking a historical day, first ever in 518 years history, no “Bali†was offered to Goddess Tripura Sundari under High Court’s order. This bloodshed less Puja was started on the holy occasion of Durga puja’s Maha-Astami. Since the morning mass crowd was seen in Matabari, devotees rowed up whole day to offer “Bhog†to Goddess Durga, but no goat was sacrificed, no cry of innocent animals were heard. What was heard was only “matra†and “slokasâ€. The Matabari priests conformed to media that this practice of “Bali†has been stopped now under District Magistrates order which asked to implement High Court’s order. However, it was little late to implement the High Court order in Matabari but today the “bali†has been stopped under High Court’s order. In all temples same practice is being followed.
