Union Transport Minister calls for IT-te | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, Nov 10 (TIWN): Union Minister Nitin Gadkari asked port authorities to use IT-based technology to increase efficiency, speed and delivery in the sector. "In order to compete with the global trading systems, our port authorities need to take on more and more active roles in the governance of logistics systems and also adopt managerial and entrepreneurial behaviours," Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Gadkari was quoted as saying in a statement. He was speaking at an event here, where he released a report titled "Next Generation Port Infrastructure -- Technology Transformation for Integrated Port Operations". The minister pointed out that efficiency of Indian ports has improved over the last two years and that performance of government ports were better than those of private sector. "Ministry has taken various steps to improve the efficiency of ports. Banks closed customer service on Wednesd | AGARTALA, Nov 9 (TIWN): Banks in Tripura & other states remained closed for any ‘customer care’ on Wednesday, but the public in Tripura have taken it very positively and enjoying the high demand of 100 rupees. After taking bytes of public it was quite clear that Indian Govt’s decision has been fully supported by public, although anti-BJP parties are to play dirty politics with this decision. A shop keeper said, ‘To some extent may be the customer is less today in few shops but our business is running good. Whatever Govt has decided, it is to bring back the black money and terrorist funded money from the miscreants. Long queues outside ATMS, petrol pumps o | AGARTALA, Nov 9 (TIWN): Long queues were seen outside ATMs and petrol pumps here after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes would not be legal tender after midnight on Tuesday. "It all started soon after the PMs speech ended. We have got massive rush.....really difficult to control. The situation is like this for the last over an hour ....and I don't see it improving in next few hours," said a petrol pump owner near Durga Bari Circle here.The situation was more or less the same at other petrol pumps in the city. However, maximum public at Agartala said that such trouble are nothing if it's considered for nation's safety. There were complaints of petrol pumps refusing to accept Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes. However, petrol pump owners said that they are only refusing to people who are demanding petrol or diesel of Rs 100-Rs 200 and giving Rs 1,000 in cash. "We are not here for money exchange," said another petrol pump owner near Durga Bari.Long line were also seen at ATMs and cash deposit machines. Indian Govt. withdraws Rs 500, Rs 1,000 | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, Nov 8 (TIWN): The Union Finance Ministry on Tuesday said the move to withdraw Rs 500, Rs 1,000 currency notes is the biggest "surgical strike" by the government to curtail black money in the economy. "This is the biggest and the boldest step by the government for containing black money. It is like a surgical strike on black money," tweeted Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a sudden address to the nation on Tuesday, announced that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes are being withdrawn from midnight and will now become "mere paper". Modi said this was being done to tackle the menace of black money in the country, which has sapped the economy. Manik Sarkar opposed Modi’s PPP m | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, Nov 8 (TIWN) Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Tuesday that despite calls for protectionism in the world, India was looking to open its economy further. "Today our economy is expanding. We are looking to open out, that is the direction for India. India's voice is getting increasingly noticed in the world," Jaitley said at the UK-India Tech Summit that began here. "There are increasing voices from economies of the world to move towards protectionism. There is no voice for protectionism in the country (India)," he said. The four-day Summit is organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Department of Science and Technology with the UK as the partner country. It’s worthy to mention here that the word protectionism is aligned with anti-globalization attempt, which was many times advertised by CPI-M as this party is against privatization policy.
