AGARTALA, Nov 8 (TIWN): Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, which aims to provide five crore LPG connections to women in Below Poverty Line (BPL) households over the next three financial years, at a cost of Rs. 8,000 crore.
But seeing the long lines before LPG agencies in Agartala PM Modi’s scheme remains only as virtual, as acute LPG crisis has hit the livelihood of people here.
“Over one crore consumers have given up their subsidy, leading to savings of nearly Rs. 2,000 crore per year. This money would be utilised to provide LPG connections to BPL families,” Mr. Modi said at the launch function.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had, in his Budget speech in February, announced a provision of Rs. 2,000 crore this financial year to provide LPG connections to 1.5 crore women from BPL households.
Consumers will have the option to purchase gas stove and refills on EMI.
However, state Tripura is facing acute LPG crisis due to massive black marketing but Govt here is playing a silent role.
