AGARTALA, Feb 9 (TIWN): Amidst Mid-day-Meal controversy, Tripura Govt & TATA Trusts jointly launched fortified salt as a part of upgrading mid-day-meal in Tripura in an attempt to prevent iron and iodine deficiencies among school children.
In this regard an awareness campaigning held at Umakanta English Medium School on Thursday.
Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said, ‘Understanding the importance of double fortified salt Tripura Govt has decided to launch the double fortified of salt. It will fight against the deficiencies of Iron and Iodine.
The double fortification of salt with iron and iodine for simultaneous prevention of iron deficiency anemia and iodine deficiency disorders has been a goal of researchers for at least 20 years.
However, apart from these issues, Tripura Mid-day-Meal programme also suffers from various problems. Lack of nutrition, negligence even insect-mixed food also reported from rural Tripura. But the Minister kept numb about those issues.
