AGARTALA, Dec 25 (TIWN): Christmas was celebrated today across northeast India with special prayers, hymns, and masses in churches, besides the traditional mass community feasts and delicious food.
Over 5.3 million Christians live in Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Manipur while there are a significant number of Christians in the other northeastern states -- Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh.
The annual carnival began from Saturday night with church services and fellowships where the congregation sang Christmas carols -- both western and local songs, composed by the local spiritualists and composers.
Christmas is being celebrated across Tripura’s churches. At Bishop's House, Mariam Nagar churches devotees thronged to pray to Jesus for betterment of their lives.
TIWN visited Don Bosco Church, Mairam Nagar, Bishop's house where huge number of students and other people joined in Christmas prayer.
Christians, Non-Christians thronged on the occasion of Christmas.
Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world.
