AGARTALA, Feb 23 (TIWN): Whereas West Bengal's 64 Fast Track Courts are functional in full wave, UP's 80, Maharashtra 80, Andhra Pradesh 72, Gujrat 61; Tripura has only 3 Fast Track Courts resulting 1 lakh 51 thousand 275 Court pending cases only in the lower courts. But there is no plan and programme to set up more Fast Track Courts. Chakraborty said, altogether 1,51,193 cases have been pending for disposal in different courts of the state and of them as many as 3185 cases have been pending for more than 10 years and a few cases were pending more than 25 years. However, allegation raised against the state govt as there were three Fast Track Courts in the state at Sonamura, Khowai and Kailashahar but without any notification the state government made them dysfunctional when the conviction rate were not satisfactory rather almost half of the national average. During the Assembly opposition MLA Ratan Lal Nath claimed as the number of these courts is less and women atrocities cases have been increasing every day, more fast track court becomes essential for the handling the situation and punish the criminals but the state government moving in reverse direction.

But, Chakraborty informed that at present 2227 cases were pending in the family courts while altogether 1626 cases had been registered in 2014, 1871 cases in 2015 and 1976 cases were in 2016 but the pendency was on raise due to shortage of judges.

On the other hand, the pending cases, which has been notified by Supreme Court again and again but due to the loopholes in investigation, poor chargesheet and lack of follow ups have left these cases pending for uncertain  period of time.

The Supreme Court is disposing pending cases at a faster rate, according to data released by the Ministry of Law and Justice. 

In this situation denying of building up Fast Track cases has raised question over the motive of the state govt.

 Recently, High Court Justice T Vaiphei said when Supreme Court notices the figure of pending cases under Tripura lower courts, then it reveals as unsatisfactory, while most of the cases were filed under traffic dept. Pressuring upon the necessity of faster judgement, he said, due to the huge number of traffic cases the Judicial officers are so much burdened that they are unable to focus on serious cases. Apart from that the video recording of evidences and other modern technologies can speed up the justice.
