AGARTALA, Feb 22 (TIWN): Wednesday’s office hours at Agartala kicked off with heavy traffic jams creating chaos across the City. The office routes and life line National Highway from Bordowali to Math Choumuhnai and the other linked roads as Paradise Chowmuhani, Radhanagar, Durga Chowmuhani were paused for hours during the office time, halting the school bus services too. At Math Choumuhnai it was observed there were only two traffic police : one on the traffic post and another on road. Observing the uncontrollable situation some other Dept’s Govt officials also came out of vehicle and helped the traffic police in traffic-management showing the autos, bikers and pedestrians the correct way to go. Resentment gripped the travelers as the heavy trucks which were carrying chips, sands were allowed via common route creating much blockage in the office route.

Recently after an accident held at Amtali where 2 young boys died, it was announced by traffic dept that trucks should be go through the bypass.  Although some traffic officials restricted the heavy vehicles movement over there, but maximum are silent, resulting sluggish move of vehicles.

However, everyday in office hours and at the evening time the condition remain more or less same. The number of vehicle has been increased a lot in last 2 / 3 years.

Although as per the census in 2011 the population of Agartala was shown as 4 lakhs but survey says that apart from the permanent residents, the total number has been extended in 2017 with around 6 lakhs.

Among 36 lakhs of population, Tripura’s 6 lakh people are residing over the Capital City, but hardly there is any initiative to expand the roads. The double land route also to evict so many houses, offices, auditoriums but on the other hand the traffic jam is turning the lives here miserable.
