AGARTALA, Feb 11 (TIWN): Communist Govt’s 23 years apathy caused massive revenue loss in Tripura’s tourist sector as outside tourists facing hardship with crippled infrastructure.
Conservation and restoration of archaeological sites in Tripura is urgently needed as after BG and express trains the demand of tourist spots increasing at a sudden. Union Railway Minister on January 24, during Agartala-Udaipur train inauguration asked the Tripura Govt to improve the Tourist spots as Tripura Sundari temple is now connected with rest of India. A recent survey said that Unakoti and North Tripura are witnessing a massive number of tourists but due to lack of infrastructure and transport system inside the State is causing much troubles for the tourists. Atleast 58 tourists were seen at Jumpui Eden Tourist Lodge on February 6, but the lodge which is specially made for foreign tourists although offers beautiful sitting places but the tourist were made to sit under the sky, but the charge was taken so high from them.

Such incidents happening due to the negligence of the State Govt and the Tourism Dept. led by lameduck Tourism Minister Ratan Bhowmik.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Friday at RabindraBhawan mention about a book written by West Bengal author DebashishLodh on Tripura tourism. CM said, “I myself didn’t know about the potentialities of Tripura Tourism, but the state has many things to see”.

However, apart form the Union Minister, Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy told Tripura Govt to look after the issues of tourism. Referring Unakoti he said, “Before I came to Tripura I never knew Unakoti is beautiful. It can compete with Ajanta-Illora”. Governor’s message was enough to understand the lack of interest from the Tripura Govt side to advertize Tripura Tourism and develop infrastructure for the tourists.

Already with the BG connection huge the tourists numbers have been increased in Tripura and now within 2 years Kailashahar, BG connection will directly connect Unakoti Archeological site with rest of the country.

Unakoti never got the deserved publicity whereas Unakoti is as wonderful as Ajanta Illora.

On November 19, the superintendant of Archeological survey of India (Aizawl) TejesGarga declared that very soon Unakoti to be declared as one of the World Heritage Site.

‘From Kolkata people go to Uttarakhand, to Himachal but they don’t come in Tripura. The state govt should recognize its drawbacks to cater tourists and take tourism as a serious means which will generate further sources of income for common people’, said Roy.

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu also asked the Tripura Govt to utilize BG service for tourism opportunities. The Central Govt has given green signal to begin land acquisition process for Dharmanagar to Kailashahar railway.

With this initiative of the Central GovtKailashahar and other Subdivisions under UnakotiDist will be benefited a lot & there will be lots of commercial development in coming days. But with the rise of connectivity if the tourist spots are not re-organized, the state may see more and more revenue losses in coming days.

Reportedly, till day in Railway Tripura’s revenue production was zero percent.
