AGARTALA, Dec 7 (TIWN): Whereas the illegal Rose Valley building has been preserved fully by the Agartala Municipal Corporation, the poor people’s govt has mercilessly evicted the hawkers from Agartala town, which was that time claimed as illegal. However, then a TMC union named Tripura Footpath Sangram Samiti appealed in Tripura High Court with 100 hawkers petitioners in 2014. The result was declared before 6 months, in support of the hawkers and HC ordered to implement the Vendor Act 2014 as per the vendor rights here.Talking to Biplab Kar, the convener of Tripura Footpath Sangram Samiti, he told TIWN that the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, which is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted to regulate street vendors in public areas and protect their rights. It was ordered to the Govt of Tripura by the High Court to follow while evicting the hawkers and to make at Agartala Hawker zone, but even after 6 months of passing of the judgment the govt didn’t take any action. As a result the members placed deputation before Mayor Prafullajit Sinha on Wednesday. The act was introduced in the Lok Sabha (on September 6, 2012 by then Union Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Kumari Selja.

The Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 6 September 2013 and by the Rajya Sabha (upper house) on 19 February 2014.

The bill received the assent of the President of India on 4 March 2014.The Act came into force from 1 May 2014, but in Tripura under CPI-M govt it failed to introduce.

It’s worthy to mention here that when comes for property tax it’s always high, but when public rights and the question of facilities arises AMC is strict by law violation, resulting a fully unscientific atmosphere in whole Agartala.

In the performance budget (2015-16)  & outcome budget (2016-17), declared by Mayor Prafullajit Sinha it was written that, “The main fund of AMC gathers from Tax. In 2015-2016 FY, Rs. 438.26 Lakhs were gathered by AMC, whereas in 2016-17 the target is about Rs. 80 lakhs”. Thus the gap between 2 FYs seems as around Rs. 42 lakhs, which will be however a huge for Agartala residents.

Thus question arises, will not this demanded tax for common people not be high for Agartala people, as the source of Income in Tripura is already very less ! Moreover, AMC has failed to provide any facility to the public. Still with few splashes of rain the town sinks into waist level water.
