IG BSF: 22 militants hide out exists in Bangladesh

Agartala, Sept 28 (TIWN): Twenty two militant hideouts still exist across Bangladesh border said Inspector General (IG) of BSF, Tripura Frontier R K Mishra. While speaking to reporters today at Salbagan, Frontier Headquarter he stated that five to six camps are located just 5km from Indo – Bangla border, most of them are in and around Chittagong Hill Track (CHT) in Bangladesh.

     The IG also informed that Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB) has been very cooperative with the BSF, whereas in some cases, due to dense forest and hostile condition in eastern sector BGB faces serious problem.

     Speaking about the recent DG level meeting in Dhaka, Mr. Mishra said that the meeting was very cordial and fruitful.

He said of 522 km border, a total of 720 km has been fenced so far and working is in progress along 148 km mainly at eastern sector. Around 72 percent work of flood lighting along the border has so far been completed and remaining work is expected to be completed by June/July next year.

  He said adding that altogether 81 new composite Border Outposts (BOP) would come up along the 856 km border with Bangladesh.

    As of now, 18 battalions of BSF  have been guarding the border.Mishra also expressed concerned over the 'influx' of criminals from Bangladesh into Indian territory and re-entry of the same criminals into Bangladesh soil after committing crime.
