DHARMANAGAR / AGARTALA, Oct 18 (TIWN): Railway service halted in Tripura when 2 bogies had been derailed at Churaibari causing massive damages to the tracks. No life-loss although has been reported to TIWN but train service fully stopped in NE Tripura centering on Churaibari, North Tripura. Many trains are standing on the tracks including Silchar-Agartala, Agartala Silchar, Assam-Shilchar. During the passing the freight train which was coming from Lumding to Agartala was derailed, when 2 of its bogies were turned with fully loaded stones. Nothing can be said how far the track was damaged but Dharmanagar TIWN correspondent via phone reported that the mishap caused extensive damage to track due to the derailment, but work on repairing the tracks are going on in full wave. Presently with dozer, the bogies are taking out of the tacks. After getting informed, NFR officials, engineers and workers rushed to the spot and presently all are working on it, informed Dharmanagar TIWN correspondent from the spot at 3.30 PM.

When Dharmanagar correspondent talked to the engineers on spot, who were sorting out the problems, they said derailment of ballast train is nothing new and also nothing to worry about it. Presently, all are busy & working together to solve the problem as fast as possible. This incident has caused further tension to the local people, although no injury was reported in this regard.

Talking to the locals present there they told TIWN correspondent, before Kali-Puja, such an incident was unexpected. However, TIWN reporter further informed that much crowd was there & police were also deployed to the spot.

Total four rail services were halted :

 1. Silchar-Kuamrghat, (Passenger train)

 2. Silchar-Agartala, (Passenger train)

3. Assam-Silchar, (passenger train)

4. Lumding-Agartala (Freight train----the derailed train)

With total 24 bogies the train was proceeding towards Agartala but sudden derailing of it has erupted tension among the public.

It’s worthy to mention here that the BG connection in Tripura is very new which launched after Modi Govt.’s coming in power at Central. Under leadership of Prime Minister Modi and dynamic Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Tripura witnessed a historical moment on Dec 29 when BG (Broad Gauge) Railway engine entered for first time in Dharmanagar, Northern Tripura.

Thus on newly laid tracks such derailing incident is nothing new. Moreover, a sigh of relief is there as there was no life-loss or injury to anyone.
