KAMALPUR, Oct 18 (TIWN): The festive season of autumn used to bring a sad tune for the contractors in the sub-division for years together.
The departments of PWD (R&B), WR and DWS never used to pay them before Durga Puja or before Diwali. Hence, the contractors had to struggle hard.
Leaving few affluent contractors maximum remained to be unemployed youths who worked with minimum capital and had to arrange materials on credit.
But, the departments never used to pay them before the festivity for almost a decade. But, at the same time, the contractors at other sub-divisions easily got their bills well before the festive season.
This tradition also had an adverse impact on a larger portion of people.
The contractual workers and wage labourers who worked in different sites had to solely depend on the bills of the contractors to meet their festive needs.
But, they also had to suffer along with their families and could hardly enjoy the festivity.
What remained mysterious was that, the working-class friendly CPIM and its organization never found to utter a single word against this administrative negligence.
And hence, the sufferings of a large number of people became inevitable amidst the colours of festivals, in Manik’s ‘Golden Era’ (!)
