PM’s Act East Policy includes SMART City Project : Joint Secretary of External Affairs

AGARTALA, Sep 23 (TIWN): Whereas Tripura Chief Minister yet to understand the substance of Narendra Modi’s ‘ACT EAST’ Policy, the Joint (States) Secretary to External Affairs Partha Satpathy stressed upon the fact that ‘Act East Policy’ is proactive & promised to develop NE. PM’s new policies on Trade & Investments, infrastructure includes SMART City project also. “Although some disruptions are held due to political interference but our vision is very clear”, he added. It’s worthy to mention here Govt of India gave a golden opportunity with 50 :50 sharing of funds to make SMART Cities. Whereas all the states are ready to go by Govt of India’s proposal, Tripura Govt. is not ready for 50: 50 sharing, and asking for 90:10 sharing.However, without investment how Tripura will upgrade, question raised.“How far central govt. can push states, developed states are known by own power”, said by NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy.However Partha Satpathy also mentioned Modi's ' Act East Policy' not only focuses on Investment, but also on cultural ties, regional organizations, developing relations.

External Affairs Ministry;'s Joint Secretary also said, “Political interference has become an obstacle to implement the Act East Policy fully in Northeast Region”.
