AGARTALA, Sep 4 (TIWN): On the occasion of Mother Teresa’s declaration as a saint by Pope Francis on Sunday at a canonization ceremony at Vatican City, Agartala’s Nirmala Sishu Bhawan Children paid tribute to Mother Teresa. However, apart from Nirmala Sishu Bhawan, in many other places of the state also the celebration held.
The programme of canonization on Sunday comes on the eve of her 19th death anniversary. Once declared Saint, she will be known as Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
Mother Teresa or Saint Teresa also known as Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, MC, was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary.
She was born in Skopje, then part of the Kosovo Vilayet in the Ottoman Empire.
Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, Mother Teresa expanded the work of the Missionaries of Charity both within Calcutta and throughout India.
But already Teresa’s canonization has been met with much controversy as many believers considered Teresa’s good works only famed in India. For some Kolkatans, Mother Teresa's focus on the city's impoverished amounted to something like urban character assassination.
However, with much controversy also she received her canonization to Sainthood.
