Agartala, May 14 (TIWN): Police today arrested a 26-year old youth on charge of cheating a trader at Joyanagar area under West Agartala police station.
The arrested person was identified as Bapi Debnath, a resident of 79 Tilla, son of Dilip Debnath. In the line of a trademark Bollywood film, Bapi Debnath went to Sreeram Enterprise of Hari Ganga Basak road at Joynagar area under West Agartala PS to purchase iron bars on May 05. He had claimed himself as a big government approved contractor of the state before the shop-keeper- Debjyoti Datta. The owner of the shop Pradip Kumar Datta was not there when he visited the shop.
Later, he purchased iron bar and handed over a cheque in the name of Sreeram Enterprise on May 07. But the cheque was returned to them as due to insufficient balance in the bank account. Of late, he again went to the Sreeram Enterprise to purchase more iron bars on May 10. The shop-keeper informed him that his cheque has got bounced.
To make the shop-keeper fool again, Bapi shown him a text message confirming previous payment was made successfully. He asked to supply more iron bars on the same day and furnished two cheques in favour of Sreeram Enterprise; cheque no- 582568, amount- 2, 17, 354 and cheque no-582566, amount- 2, 41, 500 of Indian Bank on May 10. But these two cheques were also returned to them due to insufficient balance in the account. Altogether, Bapi purchased about 11 ton iron bars which costs around Rs 6.5 lakh.
