AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, April 28 (TIWN): Tripura MP Jiten Chaudhury raised questions in zero hour of Lok Sabha that every NE state has suffered due to a huge fund cut. Thus, the clock is already ticking for the dilution of various development schemes like MGNREGA. A number of NE state governments have written several letters to the MORD(Ministry of Rural Development) citing the problem of shortage of funds already.
MP Jiten said, Tripura always being the victim of financial help as far as development is concerned.
Moreover he also pointed out that there were many such fields where Tripura can development on its own. Tripura’s Tourism Industry, Rubber Industry were among them. The Minister of Rural Development assured the NE States that he would look into the issue raised by him and initiates necessary steps in this regard but all are in vain.
It’s time that the North East Council with a more proactive support from the federal government of India discharges the Herculean task of getting the home turf ready on a war footing. India cannot afford to miss this bus when other neighbouring countries, especially China, are fast catching up to have bigger slice in international trade.
The region’s partner states namely Arunchal radesh; Assam; Manipur; Meghalaya; Mizoram; Nagaland;Sikkim; and Tripura are in high spirit to build up the springboard of country’s Look East policy which is expected to change the economic profile of India significantly in coming years.
To bridge the infrastructure gap in the region, Indian government should take several measures.
The NEC’s target groups for tourism promotion are both domestic and foreign tourists, with the highest priority being accorded to the domestic sector and particularly targeted at states like Gujarat and West Bengal which generate a high promotion of domestic tourism.
North east under non-lapsable central pool of resources, out of which the region already utilized the release fund.MP Jiten said:“DONER should have real plan to develop NE”.
He also appealed to DoNER Minister to release more funds to develop NLCPR like schemes.
He also asked Jitendra Singh to release more fund on budget session on NE Development issue .
