KAMALPUR, April 26 (TIWN): The trumpeting demands and eye-candy propaganda of development and social justice as well as women empowerment remained a prime matter in Manik’s golden regime. The ministers as well as political leaders often claimed the state to have emerged as a prominent state in the country for women empowerment. However, the ground reality used to state something different.
The domestic violence on the women turned to be a very common feature in the state now. And the discrimination on the women took far wider perspective even at the government offices.
Such an incident took place at the Baligaon Seed Store under the Superintendent of Agriculture of Salema Agriculture Sub-division, here at Kamalpur. In that office, the women employees had to sit outside the office under the trees. During the rain and storm, they had to take shelter in the neighboring houses. And the practice remained in vogue for years.
It happened not for the poor condition of the office but for the tyranny of the in-charge and irresponsibility of the higher officials. The elected members and party leaders of the locality often used to pass their times gossiping in the office.
Hence, the women employees had nothing to do but to sit outside. Even they had to keep their bags, water bottles etc hanging in a tree. But, neither the departmental officials nor the leftist employees’ association found it needful to remedy.
The practice got continued for years together.
