AGARTALA, April 24 (TIWN): In an emergency situation, section 144 imposed at Agartala after AMC started eviction drive from Nagerjala to Bordowali area on Sunday. As per Govt plan to extend flyover construction work, AMC had started the eviction drive at around 5 am on Sunday morning. However, sudden demolition drive caused huge resentment among the local residents, traders as AMC never conducted a prior meeting with the affected parties. Large contigent of Police backed AMC bulldozers started demolition from wee hours as Police arrested over a dozen people for interrupting eviction drive.DM west Milind Ramteke, SDM Manik lal Das alongwith SP, TSR battalions manned the eviction spot since morning. On Sunday the situation got out of control when the public anger erupted causing a mini battlefield in bordowali. TRS jawans in large number were deployed in that area.
The road has been closed by no-entry sign and all the vehicles are passing via by-pass towards Agartala.
However, it’s to be mentioned here that as the flyover construction has been expanded towards Bordowali, so Bordowali businessmen who occupied Govt. land were given notice about this eviction drive earlier.
AMC continued announcing about Sunday’s eviction drive this since last 2 days but avoided organizing a meeting with all affected parties. Flyover land acquisition resulted into major resentments among the traders who managed doing business for decades by greasing ruling CPI-M's palm.
However, it was claimed that AMC, construction company NCC were facing problems due to the land acquisition and now with the help of the AMC finally the eviction drive will result roads becoming larger,bringing relief from daily traffic jams.
