KAMALPUR, April 23 (TIWN): The plying of commuters on the roads of the streets continued to be dangerous enough for occasional accidents. And those accidents, on many occasions, occurred due to the poor condition of the road and bridges. In this context, the declared policy of the state government to change all the wooden bridges into RCC bridges came under serious scanner for the deplorable plight of the bridge on Halhali-Fatikroy NEC road.
The bridge at Ganganagar under Kumarghat subdivision on the Halhali-Fatikroy NEC road remained in a deplorable condition for months together. The NEC road now turned into a popular road for plying of passengers and vehicles consuming less time within the parts of the state. The road remained busy almost round the clock for all the days of the year.
In this context, the road became important enough and needed the prompt and prior attention of the department and the authority. But, the bridge, for mysterious and unknown causes remained to be in a deplorable plight. Almost three months ago, the road collapsed as the bridge got completely unable to use. Then in a hurry, the officials of PWD Kumarghat division, conducted some renovation works.
And put two iron pillars on the both ends of the bridge, so that no heavy vehicle could use the bridge. But the authority made no steps to remedy the problem completely.
Now, the bridge reached such a condition that, the bridge might collapse at any time even for the plying of light vehicles.
