AGARTALA, April 11 (TIWN): With the beginning of the summer season, water scarcity has hit the interior parts of the state.
Reportedly, SDPO and other police rushed to the spot and busy in controlling the issue, says SDM Subhashish Banarjee while talking to TIWN over phone.
It is to be mentioned here that tired of demanding to meet the need of water in the area, locals of Khilpara under Udaipur Sub-division on Monday staged road blockade at Udaipur-Kakrabon road.
Reportedly, many interior localities in Tripura are facing acute drinking water crisis mainly caused by the dry spell.
Though demands were placed to the authority take initiatives to solve the issue but yet the people had to walk miles to fetch water.
The sudden road blockade has created trouble for the commuters at the peak hour. Vehicle movement has been brought to halt with creating problem for the people.
The area has been suffering from acute water scarcity for prolonged many days, however allegation has been raised that knowing the fact also the authority are not responding to their demands and taking any solution to the problem.
Reportedly, people of the interior parts of the State had to walk several kilometres just to fetch a bucket of water. As one bucket of water is not enough for the whole family the people had to cover long distance for many time.
However, even today most of the people in the interior part of the state have not accessed to clean and safe drinking water.
Along with Khilpara under Udaipur subdivision, areas under the Dhalai District like Govindabari, the areas under the Longthorai Valley, Jampuijala, Takarjala, Manikpur, Narayansingh Ruazapara and other tribal dominated areas are lacking pure and safe drinking water.
Acute scarcity of safe drinking water in the interior is not a recent issue but the State Government is least bothered to keep keen eye on the deprived areas.
Despite of placing demands for several time, yet today no initiatives has been taken by the departments.
Presently the people of the state are experiencing serious difficulties in accessing water either from the public or private supply sources.
The unfortunate situation in various parts of the state, especially in the interior parts of the State which had continued to make life unbearable for residents, as most people have resorted to drinking unsafe water accessed from ponds and stagnant streams.
