AGARTALA, April 1 (TIWN): Streets were transformed into canals after water pipe burst left a busy junction of Battala flooded on Friday morning. Though the flyover construction agency have asked AMC to give the full blue print about the underlying water pipes but negligence from AMC in making communication has led to sudden breakage in water pipe while drilling at Battala posing tough time to the common people. Commuters faced transport chaos as they tried to travel through Battala this morning after the burst pipe sent a torrent of water down residential streets. Several residents could be seen trying to wade through the water, Water supply was disrupted in some parts of the city owing to the breakage of the water pipe at Battala tri-junction while the flyover construction works was being carried out on the stretch.
The pipe burst around 11 on Friday during the flyover piling works. According to sources, pipe bursts are a common occurrence along the stretch during the works. However, those associated with the flyover construction work alleged that this because of the failure of the authority to give them a clear list of the places where the pipes have been laid on this stretch of the road.
Following the pipe burst, the area witnessed water logging, leading to disruption in the movement of vehicles.
Water supply to several areas in the city was affected because of the burst of a main pipeline at Battala tri-junction on Friday.
Reportedly, agitating over the slow progress in the construction work of the first ever fly over the locals also complained that due to the delay in the construction site at battala the people faces traffic congestion at the office hours and cannot reach to their destination.
The locals further complained that if the construction goes on in a such a slow progress the construction work for the flyover will not be completed within the given time period.
Drilling for the construction of pillar is going on in full swing as it is necessary to set up the pillars. Heavy machines are catered from outside the state to carry out the construction works. Reportedly, mud levelling machines are also used for levelling the mud as according to the blueprint two pillars will be build at the two ends of the howrah bridge.
However, the agency is carrying out day and night work at the spots including at Battala, Bordowali, and Fire brigade chowmuhani to meet the deadline and to finish the work in the given time.
It is the first flyover of the state connecting fire brigade to Battala. The flyover will ease traffic movement to a great extent.
