AGARTALA, Feb 12 (TIWN): With puja fervour in the air, people all across the state enthusiastically celebrating Saraswati Puja in most of the houses of the state including schools and colleges.

Reportedly, people are enthusiastically participating in the puja with pomp and gaiety.

However, the goddess of art, wisdom and culture is worshipped on this day by students across Tripura and rest of India.

Goddess Saraswati is represented in white saree as white is the symbol of purity and peace. Besides, Goddess Saraswati who signifies knowledge, learning, arts and culture is portrait riding on a swan or sitting on lotus flower.

However, Saraswati Puja is performed to pay allegiance to the Goddess of learning.

Educational institutions and other learning institutes observed the puja with religious rituals on their campuses. Students turned in large numbers in the venues to seek the blessings of the goddess.

According to mythology, Goddess Saraswati is referred as the water deity and is revered for her purifying and enriching powers. The Goddess of knowledge and learning is said to have invented Sanskrit, the language of the Brahmins, of scriptures and scholars.

According to Hindu mythology, the daughter of Goddess Durga comes with the whole family in autumn, during Durga Puja.

However, in Maharashtra and Gujarat, Saraswati Puja starts with Saraswati Avahan on Maha Saptami and ends on Vijayadashami with Saraswati Udwasan or Visarjan (idol immersion).

While in Eastern India, which includes West Bengal, the occasion is celebrated in the 'Magha' month (January-February).

On the other hand, during the traditional festivals where people conduct get together with the family members had to manage their pocket or to deduct the list of commodities from the part of celebration.

The price hike has left us no option rather than to deduct some of the items which we would have taken as a part of Puja celebration.

Locals complained that compare to other years this year the price of the commodities are very high. They are unable to buy atleast a limited amount of fruits as it is affecting the budget.
