Agartala, Oct 18 (TIWN/IANS) An FIR can now be filed with Tripura Police through an SMS or via an e-mail, an official statement said here Sunday.
"Tripura Police have taken an initiative to register FIR (First Information Report) through an SMS or through an e-mail," said a police statement.
The statement said the complaint must indicate the name and address of complainant, the nature of the offence and the place of occurrence.
Earlier, Tripura Police as part of their initiatives to curb rising crimes against women launched a toll-free helpline number for women in distress to lodge their complaints. The helpline (1091) would be operational 24 hours and anyone across the state can dial the number to seek help or alert the police.
As the rural areas of Tripura suffers from frequent disruption of internet service, the SMS service has been initiated and could be a very useful tool for public as well as for the government departments in implementing the e-Governance applications using mobile technology, said sources.
According to the notification, a victim has to type- tp then a space and then the message and had to send to the mobile number 9212357123.
Citizen can send a complaint through SMS. Later, Tripura Police Control Room Police will scrutinize the received complaints.
