BG conversion work stalled in 800 meter area of Teliamura at Agartala-Kumarghat railway track

AGARTALA, Oct 15 (TIWN): The local people of Teliamura have stalled the BG conversion work at Teliamura in demand of road over bridge since October 1. Due to the strong confrontation from the side of the villagers BG conversion work could not be taken up at around 800 meter area of Teliamura. If the impasse continues the work will be suffered.

It is to be mentioned here that yet in another historic moment for the landlocked Tripura, The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recently conducted a motor trolley on the newly converted Broad Gauge (BG) track from Agartala to Kumarghat scripting a historic success in executing railway projects. Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), NFR AS Garud, Chief Engineer (Construction), NFR Harpal Singh and Dy Chief Engineer (Construction) BS Bhaskar witnessed the historic event.The entire journey was successful barring a halt at Teliamura area where BG conversion work could not be taken up due resistance from local people.

They have been demanding a Rail Overhead Bridge (ROB) at Teliamura station for safety of local people.However, there is no assurance when will this issue at the Teliamura will meet an end but if the situation prevails it will definitely hamper the work progress.The trial run of the motor trolley run was conducted on the newly converted BG track between Agartala to Kumarghat to check the stability of the track and to begin the journey of the goods trains in the track. 

However, a total of conversion of 109 km of rail track from Meter Gauge (MG) to Broad Gauge (BG) for the Agartala – Kumarghat railway track is completed and is now ready to run the goods train in the track. In a major achievement, the engineers and workers with their best effort has converted 109 km rail track from Meter Gauge (MG) to Broad Gauge (BG) for Kumarghat to Agartala track successfully. The rail track between Kumarghat to Agartala is now ready to run goods train. As per the schedule, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) undertook the BG conversion work just two month back and the conversion of track for the Agartala-Kumarghat track is already complete.

Meanwhile, a full-fledged team of NFR headed by its General Manager RK Gupta was on a three-day visit to the state recently. During the visit, the GM reviewed the status of ongoing railway projects in the state and expressed his satisfaction over the performance.

With the introduction of the BG facility, one could return from Guwahati to Agartala, capital town of the landlocked State –Tripura in a journey spanning around eight hours and if things fall in place, the ongoing work of BG conversion work from Lumding to Agartala via Badarpur would be completed shortly.

With the everyday progress in the conversion work, the common mass of the state is observing a ray of hope for faster communication and transportation by March 2016.
