AGARTALA, Oct 14 (TIWN): The long rule of CPI-M both in the state and Agartala Municipal Corporation have failed to develop infrastructures in the corporation area. Whereas with no developed infrastructures Agartala is termed as one of the best city in the country by the ruling party.

For last 10 years work of covered drains have started but half of the work yet to be completed till date.   No one can tell when will the work will be completed. Agartala got the municipal corporation tag from municipal council without any infrastructure of drains. Better drainage system is one of  most important  yard stick  for declaring any city as best. Only constructing some high rise building in the capital cannot be termed as development. Infrastructure development in real sense  the  only development.

After drainage comes supply of safe drinking water in Agartala.  For development of water supply infrastructure crores and crores of rupees are coming from centre, but due to unrealistic approach till now no infrastructures of   permanent water sources are available here. Even now scarcity of drinking water is a major problem  in Agartala  city.

The third major problem is there is no effective solid wastage management programme in Agartala. Only a small portion of the capital that also the VIP area is kept clean. But the majo r area remains unclean and files of huge garbage’s can be noticed. People throw waste in open aeas due to non – availability of dustbins. Various NGOs carry waste from the households in return of paying money. The households pay twice one as taxes to AMC and to NGOs for collecting the wastes. In metro cities no extra money is charged for carrying wastes from hosues. In one word there are no  solid waste management infrastructures in the Agartala.
