REGA agitation repeats  at Hezamara, BDO and panchayat staffs locked inside office

AGARTALA, Oct 14 (TIWN): Yet again MGNREGA wages row repeated at Kathalia village committee in Hezamara Block under Sidhai Police Station in West Tripura District on Tuesday. The agitated REGA workers have locked inside the BDO, GB Das and other staffs claiming nonpayment of wages for last three months. Getting the information, police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans rushed to the spot and tried to control the situation. When last report came in the evening workers were still agitating. However, the CPI (M) party accused the Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Tripura (IPFT) behind the unrest situation at Hezamara prior the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) village committee elections.

In similar incident  ahead of ADC election   some police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans including several REGA workers was injured in a of different village committees centering their payment issue. A case was lodged against nearly 50 REGA workers for initiating the clash. The REGA workers smashed the vehicle of local MLA Pranab Debbarma and also attacked the police.

In June, 2015 state government  has suspended an engineer posted in Hezamara rural development block of West Tripura allegedly for siphoning off Rs 45.95 lakh of MGNREGA fund. The initial investigation established that the Rs 45.95 lakh was taken away against false work order.
