Kameshwar Rao, former Chief Secretary appointed as SEC

Agartala, Oct 13 (TIWN): Former Tripura Chief Secretary G. Kameshwar Rao was appointed as state election commissioner on Tuesday. As the SEC, a constitutional post, Rao will be responsible for conducting local elections in the state.Rao 1983 batch of Manipur – Tripura cadre IAS officer, had attained superannuation in March 31, 2015. He will replace present SEC SK Rakesh, principal secretary of power department.

Meanwhile the main opposition Congress party opposed the  appointment of Rao as SEC ahead of civic bodies election schedule to held in December next. They oppose the appointment  and allege that CPI(M) is going ahead with a political interest at this time of civic elections. Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman  alleged that the initiative was taken by the government to win the next AMC, municipal council and nagar panchayat elections.
The state election commission recently released the drafted photo electoral role for the ensuing urban body election. The election schedule to held on mid – December next. The election will held for one municipal corporation and 20 municipal council.

There are 5 lakh 35 thousand and 66 voters. Among them 2 lakh 67 thousand 816 are male voters and female voters are 2 lakh  67 thousand and 250 voters. From the electoral it appeared that number of women voter is more than male voter at Agartala Municipal Corporation. 

Claim and objections on the drafted electoral started from the day it was issued. It will remain till October 10. All claims and objection hearing will held on October 17 and the final photo electoral  list will be announced on November 4. The drafted electoral roll is based on January 1, 2015.

Election will held for 310 seats in one municipal corporation and 20 municipal council. In Agartala municipal corporation there are 49 seats and total voters are 3 lakh 83 thousand and 1. Among the total voters 1 lakh 53 thousands and 915 voters are male and 1 lakh, 54 thousand and 386 voters are female. In AMC female voters are more from male voters
