AGARTALA, October 12 (TIWN): With the zero progress of work in the renovation of NH44, it seems that the people of Tripura have to travel through the topsy-turvy road during the puja days also. With just a week left for the colourful festival of Durga puja, there is no glimpse of facelift of NH44 so far in the state.Incessant rainfall over past many days has disrupted that the repairing of NH44 road, says PWD Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik to TIWN correspondent on Sunday. The deplorable condition of National Highway 44, the only road connectivity that links mainland India with the eastern part of Meghalaya, Barak Valley in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura has for a long time now remained a harrowing experience for helpless commuters.Talking to TIWN correspondent, PWD chief engineer Sunil Bhowmik stated that continuous rainfall over past many days has disrupted the repairing work of the road and has resulted to the terrible condition of the NH 44.The poor condition of the NH44 has lead to endless sufferings for the state people. Starting from transportation problem, now the people are facing the threat of price hike in the state.Although lately, the state govt. has opened an alternative way of NH-44 by which goods may be exported and imported but the same alternative road has also beak down due to over load.Since last many days’ goods had been found rotten on Assam-Agartala road, as vehicles were stranded along the NH-44 highway. Adding to the sufferings of the people, long queue of people were found waiting with their motorcycles in front of the petrol pump in the vicinity of Agartala, giving rise to large scale black marketing of oil.

Due to the pathetic condition of the NH44, the petrol crisis in the state has gone high.

Only counting days left for the glamorous durga puja and there is no where any glimpse of any renovation of the city roads, neither any renovation of NH44 even after the tall claims of the ministers.

It is to be mentioned here that PWD Chief Engineer while talking to TIWN correspondent said that the facelift of the National Highway- 44 and interior roads is expected to get over by 60 percent before Puja, but only 7days left for the puja and there is no glimpse of any road renovation so far.
