AGARTALA, Oct 4 (TIWN): BG conversion work to be completed within the given duration, said General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) RK Gupta in a meeting with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday at Secretariat.The team led by GM of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) RK Gupta also inspected road over bridge No: 33 on NH44 of Agartala-Udaipur section of Agartala-Sabroom new line project. The team also inspected the blanketing manufacturing plant and bridge no 112 on Gomoti River.In a three visit to the state, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) RK Gupta on Friday accompanied by Chief Engineer Harpal Singh visited Nischintapur, an area where the Indo-Bangla track will pass through international border. At Nischintapur area, the GM had words with Chief Engineer Singh, Chief Executive Officer AS Garub on the proposed 15 km railway track.As per the plan, a portion of Indo-Bangla rail track would be elevated corridor to reduce land required for the project. The 15-km railway project is expected to be completed by 2017 but it was not known when the work will get underway. Although the project has been sanctioned, no fund has been released yet stumbling block to the land acquisition process.However, General Manager (Construction), Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) R.K.Gupta in his visit was accompanied by A.S.Garud Chief Administrative officer, Ajit Pandit NFR CAO Malingaon, Harpal Singh Chief Engineer, Rabindra Ram Chief Engineer and PB Sivaram Prasad CAO NFR. It is worthy to be mention that Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu would pay a one-day visit to Tripura in the second week of October to lay the foundation stone for conversion of railway tracks from meter gauge to broad gauge. Transport Minister Manik Dey, who met the Railways Minister in Delhi to discuss the progress of different railway projects of the state on September 23, said the Union Minister had accepted his invitation to visit the state in second week of October.
Sources confirmed that, the NFR team is satisfied with the progress in the BG conversion work and it is expected that the BG conversion work is expected to get completed by March 31.
A total of 17 teams have been working on the conversion work at 43 locations from Karimganj to Kumarghat and the BG work is supposed to be completed upto Agartala by March 31, 2016. Chief Engineer of NFR Harpal Singh, who met Transport Minister Manik Dey informed that BG conversion work is in full swing and expected to get over within the stipulated time frame. Currently, BG conversion work is going on a track measuring 17 km and gradually it would be extended up to Agartala.
