Agartala, Sept 10 (TIWN) Top Congress leaders, who recently joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) headed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Tuesday declared to fight against both ruling Left Front and main opposition Congress to resolve the people’s miseries.
“Many Congress and CPI (M) leaders and MLAs would soon join the TMC to strengthen the party to capture power in the next assembly elections in Tripura in 2018,” newly appointed chairman of the TMC Tripura unit Ratan Chakraborty said.
Accompanied by the state party president Surajit Datta and other leaders, Mr Chakraborty said that at least five Congress legislators, many party leaders and senior most leaders of CPI (M), INPT (Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura) would join the TMC shortly to make the Congress a nonentity.
“The incumbent Congress leaders in the Feb 14 assembly elections have cheated with the people and helped CPI-M to remain in power,” Mr Chakraborty added.
Congress’ top leaders Surajit Datta, Ratan Chakraborty and Jawar Saha, all former ministers and party’s OBC department Chairman Prafulla Debnath went to Kolkata last week and joined the TMC.
TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has appointed Mr Chakraborty, Mr Saha and Mr Datta as chairman, vice-chairman and president respectively while Dulal Das has been chosen as working president of the party.
Mr Saha said that TMC party units would be set up at all block levels in Tripura and a state level meeting would be held soon to formally start the organisational programme in the state.
Meanwhile, the Congress has expelled four of its rebel leaders after they formally joined TMC.
