Agartala-Udaipur rail targeted to open by March 2016, land to be handed over by August’ 15

AGARTALA, July 29 (TIWN): Agartala-Udaipur section is targeted for opening by March 2016, said the NFR delegation team meeting transport minister Manik Dey at the secretariat recently. Several other issues related to the mega block work was also taken up in the meeting where the team has placed certain demands from the state government.Land would be handed over by August 2015 as per annexure so that project can be commissioned within target date, said official. However, inspection of the section by Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is scheduled in February 2016. Land in Udaipur – Sabroom section is also required to be handed over early to adhere the target of Engine Rolling in the section of March 2017 and commissioning of the section by March 2018.Meeting with the minister the NFR delegation had sought permission from the state government for disposal of surplus earth in forest land in Udaipur-Sabroom section, said official. There is a surplus earth released from cutting location and after utilizing the same in filling area of embankment for railway track.In view of this the NFR had sought permission to be granted for disposal of the surplus earth released from tilla portion in the lunga portion as there is no other space for disposal.

Besides, the NFR in view of the mega block rail line work scheduled to kick off from October 1 has demanded the state government accommodation for railway officials deputed for mega block.

Railway officers and staff have been deputed for the mega block at all the railway stations between Kumarghat to Agartala.

After the introduction of the BG facility one could return from Guwahati to Agartala, capital town of the landlocked State Tripura in eight hours.The ambitious railway project, which is also a national project, has 79 major bridges, 340 minor bridges, 28 railway stations and four halt stations.

During the meeting held at the secretariat state transport secretary Samarjit Bhowmik, DM (West) Dr. Milind Ramteke and other officials of NFR remained present which discussed several issues related to the mega block and BG conversion work.

The train services from Agartala would be suspended from October 1 following the mega block work. It is to be mentioned here that currently the BG conversion work is undergoing in full swing at Agartala railway station and other parts towards south.
