Crime against women to be curbed, says Bijita Nath

AGARTALA, July 29 (TIWN): One day long state level workshop on Women Issues has been organized on Tuesday at Pragna Bhawan. The inaugural speech was delivered by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Bijita Nath in the presence of Chairperson of Tripura Commission for Women Purnima Roy, Secretary of Social Welfare and Social Education M. Nagaraju.

During the programme, the dignitaries have discussed about the various major issues of the women of the state where Joint Director of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Aditi Majumder and Sharmistha Datta have participated.

HOD of Political Science Department at Tripura University Dr. Chandrika Basu Majumder and Advocate Ranjita Dey have shared their views on implementation of Laws enacted for women’s right in property including Tribal Women as a means of empowerment.

Besides, Member-Secretary of Tripura State Legal Services Authority Biswajit Palit and Member-Secretary of Tripura Commission for Women discussed on implementation of the Dowry Prohibition Act 1961 in Tripura and accessibility of assistance to women victim and the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005.

However, Dr. J.M Ghosh of Modern Psychiatric Hospital and HOD of Psychology of Tripura University discussed about the psychiatric disorder among women and its prevention and improving Mental Health and Empowerment of Women.

The topic of anti human trafficking under Implementation of Immoral Trafficking Act 1956 and Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013 in Tripura and POCSO Act was discussed by Secretary of Tripura State Legal Services Authority Dhiman Debbarma, Advocate Aditi Sharma Lodh and Secretary of Tripura Adibasi Mahila Samiti Rita Roy.

During the second session of the programme, the dignitaries have discussed about the implementation of PC & PNDT Act 1995 in Tripura, Ways and means of eradication of gender discrimination, Role of NGOs in women empowerment, Economic Development of Women through NGO efforts and Role and Responsibility of Media for sensitisation on women issues.
