AGARTALA/AMBASSA, July 24 (TIWN): Auto Drivers and local people staged a road blockade at Ambassa Railway road to draw the attention of the concerned department towards the pathetic condition of roads in the area which is perilous for commuting and transportation.

Deprived of the basic necessity of transportation, the residents of Ambassa Railway area under the initiative of all the local leaders of the political party including CPI-M, BJP and Congress, thronged the streets and staged road blockade, disrupting the traffic movement over Ambassa Railway road from afternoon.

The road blockade continued for 2 hours in the morning from morning 12 to 2 over Ambassa Railway road, paralyzing the traffic movement.

Trouble started in the morning when panic sparked among the residents regarding the critical condition of the road. Peeved over poor condition of roads over pat many years, residents started the demonstration. The agitating AUTO Drivers along with residents blocked the road and raised slogans against the civic body. Traffic was disrupted for hours due to the protest.

The protesters further said that since long the same road is in brick-flat soling and since then all the roads have developed and carpeting is also done but so far no initiative is taken to renovate the road. This is one of the important roads as large numbers of passengers travel with their personnel vehicles over this road and regularly meet with accidents. Even the people faces trouble while carrying dead bodies to the cremation ground through this road.  Day after day the localities are facing problems due to the poor condition of the road but so far no action is taken for the renovation of this road.

"The road is filled with dust garbage and is shambles. Everyday accidents take place on this stretch due to poor condition of roads. The entire area has turned into a death trap," said an agitating resident.

We have made repeated appeals to the authorities to carry out repair-work, but the civic body has turned a blind eye to our plight," said another resident of the area.

However, after officials of PWD visit and assurance, the protesters had withdrawn the road blockade at Ambassa Railway road.
