AGARTALA, July 1 (TIWN): State Cabinet meeting on Tuesday had issued a green signal for the conversion of three Nagar Panchayats into Municipal Council. Talking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat Minister Manik Dey informed that earlier the state government had decided to convert Kumarghat Nagar Panchayat, Ranir Bazar Nagar Panchayat and Santirbazar Nagar Panchayat into municipal council, following which the notification has been issued for claims and objections if any.
Dey informing the decision of the cabinet meeting said that no objections or claims has been received yet by the state government following which the cabinet meeting on Tuesday had issued a final notification for the conversion.
However, with the three additional Municipal councils there would be a total of 13 Municipal councils here in the state and 6 Nagar Panchayats.
According to a recent population census, the population of Kumarghat, Shantirbazaar and Ranirbazaar has exceeded fifteen thousand, making it legally allowable for converting them into municipal councils, Dey said.
Besides, briefing the cabinet decision on Tuesday Minister further informed that the cabinet had decided to create 5 vacant posts under the Finance department. A total of 5 Assistant Manager, Finance would be recruited each for five Nagar Panchayats and Municipal Councils.
The assistant manager, finance would be recruited for Panisagar Nagar Panchayat, Jirania Nagar Panchayat, Mohonpur Municipal Council, Melagarh Municipal Council and Bishalgarh Municipal Council.
However, later Dey said, “Keeping in view the change in the entire accounting system the cabinbet on Tuesday had decided to induct fresh candidates for the post.” Adding to that Dey also said the minimum qualification for applying to the post is B.Com Honours and M.Com.
Earlier the Lower Division Clerks were being inducted to work as an assistant manager for finance, but it has been learnt that as the entire accounting system has been changed now they face several hurdles handling the finance, Dey told the reporters on Tuesday.
