Agartala, Aug 31, (TIWN) : In-house preparation to convert the present Council into Corporation is very much on. The administration has taken few important steps for the same. Recently, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has expressed his hope to develop Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) into a Corporation. If it happens it would yield more benefits and facilities for people of the city.

There are places in the country where an area of a city with two lakhs of population has been converted to a Corporation. Agartala, the city has now a population of around four lakhs.

Recently, while speaking in the inauguration programme of the Ujjayanta Market at MTB road, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar emphasized on the overall development of Childrens Park. He expressed his annoyance by saying that this ground used to be widely utilized for different kinds of fairs and so many shops and traders situated around the park were making the area of the park shrink. Besides renovating the pond inside the park he has also proposed an open theatre and an open place for convention and gathering.

“Democracy not only means casting votes but you should have opportunities for exercising your democratic activities and 94% pullout in recent election proves the democratic environment”, said Mr. Sarkar, that day. The fact that the Agartala Municipal Council would be converted in to a Corporation is now a matter of time. Very soon, this decision may also be let known to the people, sources said.
