Government plans delimitation

Agartala, Aug 31, (TIWN): Preparation in the government level is on and within another one or two months, the official ‘declaration’ will come out, sources said. Chief Minister or may be Panchayat Minister may meet the Press soon to ‘announce’ that number of Gram Panchayats are increasing in numbers in the state.

After creating new blocks, Nagar Panchayats, the Left Front government is contemplating to create more Gram Panchayats bifurcating some ‘over-crowded’ GPs. The government has sought separate reports from Panchayat Samities to identify Gram Panchayats having population of over 5000 or 5000 plus to push the plan for increasing number of GPs, said Panchayat Minister Manik Dey, recently.

As of now, the state has 511 Gram Panchayats and if the plan is implemented, around 100 more GPs would be increased across the state. However, there will be no chance in the Village Committees’ area. After the creation of new 13 RD blocks, increase in the number of GPs has become necessity, according to analysts.

The government wants to effect the delimitation of GPs well before Puja because the three-tier panchayat elections are scheduled to be held on early next year.
