AGARTALA, Dec 30 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Saha announced Rs. 5 lakhs to Anjel Chakma’s family , who are trying to get strength in this difficult time of losing their beloved family member. Anjel Chakma was killed by six people in Dehradun out of racial hatred. The miscreants were injured by stabbing him on his back on December 9 and Chakma died on December 26, weeks after struggling for recovery. Tripura CM reacting to the announced Rs. 5 lakh of compensation said that, nobody can refill the loss of losing him (Anjel Chakma) but still it was just an attempt of helping the family.

“It was a heinous criminal act. But already five people have been arrested. The chief minister of Uttarakhand talked to me and also Anjel Chakma’s family and swift action has been taken to arrest the culprits,” said Saha.

He also mentioned, Minister Tinku Roy and Minister Santana Chakma would meet the family shortly.

Angel Chakma ignited protests against racism with his last words, “I am an Indian… I am not Chinese.” The racism is often felt against Northeast origin tribal people outside the Northeast because of their look, language and accents.
