AGARTALA, Jan 12 (TIWN): Tripura's state assembly has introduced a bill proposing a significant salary hike for its ministers, legislators, and former lawmakers. The amendment seeks to increase their salaries and allowances by 45-50%. If passed, the Chief Minister's salary would rise to ?97,000, while other top officials, including the Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers, and Assembly Speaker, would receive salaries ranging from ?94,000 to ?96,000. The bill also proposes increasing the salary of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to ?93,000.
In addition to their salaries, these officials are entitled to various allowances, including sumptuary, hospitality, telephone, and house rent allowances. The bill also aims to enhance the pensions and family pensions of former MLAs, increasing them to ?66,000 and ?48,000, respectively.
Notably, the proposed amendment bill provides retirement benefits, including pensions, to all MLAs who have served for at least a day. Previously, MLAs were eligible for retirement benefits only after serving for at least four-and-a-half years.
