AGARTALA, Aug 27 (TIWN): Assam Rifles in a joint operation with the Customs Department successfully seized a huge cache of contraband Yaba tablets, amounting 1,20,000 pieces worth Rs 19.2 cr at Salbagan, Agartala in Tripura today. In the operation a man was apprehended and his Bolero vehicle was seized.
The troop in a press statement said that in a swiftly taken operation following a tip off, the Assam Rifles barricaded a vehicle and recovered a huge cache of contraband drugs during the search. The contraband Yaba tablets numbering 1,20,000 pieces were seized and the man apprehended along with his Bolero vehicle were handed over to the Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The statement said the success of the operation underscored the fact that despite being heavily committed to the relief and rescue operations and subsequent rehabilitation of displaced citizens in the floods, Assam Rifles is still active in its fight against drugs and illegal smuggling of contrabands.
