AGARTALA, Aug 18 (TIWN): Mass-agitation erupted in Barjala after a running vehicle that belongs to Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) had hit a young man named Abhijit Das and ran away. What erupted the anger within public more was the vehicle had no number and instead of helping the injured it ran from the spot. A local who participated in the agitation said, “The vehicle was at such a speed that the injured man’s helmet got attached to the vehicle and then after a while, the vehicle driver threw the helmet.”
Local people stopped another AMC vehicle to inquire about the actual vehicle and surprisingly, that vehicle too did not have any number plate.
“Not only AMC vehicle but the police vehicle. It’s registration is expired. If we violate minimum rules, we are served with fines but what about the Govt and its vehicles?”, asked a young man who was agitating on the spot in Barjala.
According to locals, the man’s leg was parted into two pieces and police recovered his cut leg later.
On being asked, an official of the AMC tried to explain that the vehicles have no number-plates because of a technical reason.
