AGARTALA, June 18 (TIWN): Tripura Congress demanded online nomination submission for the upcoming panchayat polls. Talking to media, Congress State President Asish Saha said, the demand is valid because not a single election in Tripura since 2018 was rigging free and pre-poll attacks have turned common political culture. On the other hand, Congress sought sufficient security setup in booths. A deputation was placed to the Election Commissioner in this regard. “The election commission has assured it will take all necessary actions to satisfy our demands. Congress is fully prepared for the upcoming poll,” said Saha.
On being asked about any possible of seat-sharing with the Left Front, Asish Saha said, “We will take decision after discussions.”
Yesterday, Tripura Women Congress organized a meeting with the State President Asish Saha to discuss about the upcoming Panchayat poll.
Party activists from across the state had participated the meeting.
Various organizational issues were discussed in the party office keeping a focus on the upcoming Panchayat poll.
Addressing the meeting, Congress president Asish Saha mentioned, how former Prime Minister Rajib Gandhi was focussed to empowering women and now Congress has a vision to implement a 50% reservation for women in electoral seats.
According state election department’s data, 2650 polling stations will be needed in 35 blocks. The draft voters’ list has already been published and by 24th June, it will be finalized. As per the draft voter list, the voters’ numbers are 12,95,086.
In 35 blocks total seats are 6370, in 35 Panchayat Samiti the seat numbers are 423 seats, and in 8 Jila Parishads total seat numbers are 116.
